mind altering substances

I'm in a much better mood than I have been for the last few days.

Sunlight helps--but we've had that.

Exercise helps: an hour or so at the gym, cardio and weight lifting.

Mostly, though, what helps is lying to myself about the season. I don't care about the calendar: I have a crate of clementines, yes. I also have a bag of fresh peas, and five apricots. Mmmm. Summer. I'm a primate, and fresh ripe tree fruit is where it's at.

Update: the peas were a not-quite-total failure. I wound up picking through the bowl of cooked peas, for the few that actually had some flavor, among the mass of starchy, wrinkled would-be peas. I probably wouldn't have bothered, except that I was using chopsticks for unrelated reasons (I'd used one to stir the peas while cooking, so I just grabbed a second, instead of a fork). The apricots are varied--one quite good, and one I threw away half of, so far. Three remain. The clementines are good, though.
