By now I've packed often enough for work trips, for conventions and for folk festivals (and am enough of a compulsive list maker) that I can find a file on my PC with the list of things packed last time and then I carry it around with me, ticking off things as they are found (or done) and as they actually go into luggage.
And yes, one of the first items on the list is "luggage"!
In spite of which, I'm still usually awake at 4am the morning of the trip doing last minute packing or just gibbering quietly about whether I've forgotten anything.
