As if we didn't have enough problems

A couple of hours after I got back from the vet's office, I went out for a walk--a gorgeous day, a gorgeous park, a water bottle, and, of course, my cell phone. I'd gotten most of the way around the soccer field, stopping to look at flowering trees, when it rang. I answered, and [livejournal.com profile] cattitude told me to sit down for a minute.

I settled cross-legged on the asphalt (I spent quite a bit of today sitting on floors), and he told me that he'd just been laid off.

They have out-sourced my beloved's job to Canada, for reasons that make little or no sense to either of us. He's getting two weeks' severance pay, and already has a couple of good job leads: he'd suspected something like this was coming (though not the Canada part) and started contacting headhunters last week.

Me, I have intermittent freelance work, and oddities like a rebate check that just showed up, mailed in postcard form, which practically shouts "Steal me!" And I really need to get out and exercise tomorrow.

Oh, *ouch*.

Much sympathy, and many good vibes being sent your way. On many fronts.

Mmmph. Bad universe. Stop being nasty to [livejournal.com profile] redbird, y'hear? Bad universes don't get given chocolate and praise.

You have my sympathies. I know how distressing and disorienting it can be to lose one's job. Hopefully one of the headhunter's he's already contacted will be able to come up with something.

Oh, that sucks little green frogs. Sympathy and good wishes.

Oh, heavens...

I'm terribly sorry.

Ouch. Good luck to you folks.

What a lot has landed on you lately, with your cat and now this. So sorry.

That so sucks.

It just seems my friends have had nothing but bad news lately...

Sigh...

I think American corporations have gone insane. Collectively. It'd put them right in step, after all.

I'm very sorry their insanity has landed on your doorstep, and at such a bad time.

Ah, dammit, I'm sorry. *hugs* if you'd like them, and lots and lots of good luck vibes on all fronts.

[identity profile] drcpunk.livejournal.com 2004-04-19 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Ouch. My sympathies. Poor cat.

A postcard check??? For amounts greater than, say, $1??? I am boggled.

[identity profile] filkerdave.livejournal.com 2004-04-19 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh jeez...

*hugs*

Peace to you.

Ye ghods and little fishes. If it's not one thing, it's another. *big fierce hugs* to you both and job-hunting vibes, too.

Gaah, this sucks.

I am now suspicious of gorgeous days ...

[identity profile] roadnotes.livejournal.com 2004-04-20 05:22 am (UTC)(link)
damn, damn, damn.

[identity profile] papersky.livejournal.com 2004-04-20 06:36 am (UTC)(link)
That really sucks. Sympathy and hugs to both of you.

Trying to look on the bright side when Rysmiel told me this last night, I managed to come up with:

1) The best time to get a job is when you have one, or have just lost one, it gets harder with time, so maybe he'll get another one soon -- go, mighty headhunters.

2) Maybe he'll get a job working for people with brains instead of rocks.

Yeep!

Best of luck, and here's to a speedy reemployment!

Sympathy :(

Canada?

[identity profile] wouldyoueva.livejournal.com 2004-04-20 05:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Geez, and here I thought jobs were only outsourced to third world countries.

I'm sorry to hear this and I'm sorry about your cat. You must be really shell-shocked about now. Please get plenty of rest (you seem like you have a good handle on eating sensibly) and try to find something to bring the joy back into your life. I hope your last bad thing has already happened.

FFS, they couldn't offer to move him to Canada to do the damn job? That sucks.

(FWIW, does this create any interest in the Bay Area editorial jobs mentioned by [livejournal.com profile] lethalpenguin recently?)
