I have a bad feeling about this...
Elaine Stiles has asked me to volunteer for a shift or two as fan lounge host at MilPhil. Fine, no problem, the programming schedule is on the Web, so I can look and make sure that there's nothing I really want to attend at the times I was thinking about.
Skim Friday. Nothing I can't live without at noon. 1:00. Hm, "fanzine fandom today" looks interesting--and then more than interesting, as I see my name listed as a panelist.
Yes, I volunteered for this--though at the time I didn't realize that it would be separate from the panel on what fanzines everyone should be reading today. But I expected to get a note--email is fine--telling me that I was on it, not to stumble across it while looking for something else.
I wonder if the other panelists know they're supposed to be there? Or when they'll find out, if not.
And, for that matter, what we're going to be talking about. Our own fanzines? That could get pretty self-referential and tedious, even if everyone on the panel is publishing this year, which I'm not at all sure of. I am NOT moderating this. But I don't know who, if anyone, is.
On the other hand, I suspect that Whittaker, Arthur, and I can improvise for an hour, if it comes to that.
I'm also annoyed that someone seems to have decided that it just Wouldn't Do to list me anywhere as a program participant--this isn't a straightforward fan-vs.-pro class division, because Victor Gonzalez, like me a fanzine fan, is listed with other people who said they'd be there too late to get into the program book. Maybe Steve didn't get his list of names to the main program people in time? Does this mean I don't get a ribbon? Do I care? Yes. I might not care if I hadn't gotten a very generic brush-off letter, complete with offer to set up an autographing session, in response to my offer/inquiry about being on programming.
