I just bought a membership in this year's Wiscon, which is entirely online, so I don't have to worry about energy levels, or covid risk, and all I'm paying for is the con, not airline tickets and a hotel room and all.

Is there an in-person form of Wiscon as well? I know some people here who are probably pretty happy about the online version.

Edit: I went and looked at the site. I recently saw Naomi Kritzer here at a scifi reading hour. I've met her a couple of times over the years as we have several friends in common.

Edit again: and now that I've looked more at the schedule, I wish I wasn't needing to get so much work done over the next several days. I have wedding garments in the shop to finish. I may by a membership anyway and just show up when it suits me. My few Con experiences are pretty limited, usually it was volunteering for a party room or working for a dealer, and attending a panel or two.

This year is online-only, because the con-runners concluded they didn't have the resources to do the usual in-person con, which takes a lot more volunteer hours. They're also referring to this as a "gap year," and I think people have been trying to figure out plans for future years, including whether future Wiscons should be hybrid, entirely in-person, or entirely online.

I haven't been to Wiscon in several years for a variety of reasons, including but not only geography and my energy levels.
