The MBTA system is a bit of a hybrid as well. The Green Line light rail but runs partly underground (with subway stations) and partly on the surface. And some of those surface bits look more like commuter rail, and some of the tracks are on streets with other traffic, and stations ranging from separated low platforms to yellow stripes painted on the sidewalk.
