It would be simple for the phone companies to enable caller ID for all subscribers. They could say it's because of the pandemic, but really it's past time. The only reason land line subscribers don't get caller ID as a matter of course is because land lines existed before caller ID, so caller ID could be positioned as a premium feature that costs extra. The phone companies have milked that for years. If they want another continuing income stream, it is time for them to come up with a new innovation. Like maybe a pocket phone that can do live video chat. Oh wait. Somebody else already did that.
