"Sensible," again

It occurred to me, belatedly, that "sensible" is an aspect of intelligence. I have no trouble thinking of myself as smart. Maybe it's that I've heard too many people talk about the difference between practical intelligence and more abstract stuff, and thus don't give myself enough credit for the former.

There's also the persistent subtext that "sensible" is the opposite of "exciting" and "attractive," as in "sensible shoes" (not that I'd wear any other kind--but shoes aren't where I want to get my excitement). That probably goes with me thinking "Why does [livejournal.com profile] cattitude get to be the crazy uncle, when I'm the sensible aunt?"
