I had a doctor's appointment this morning (just a checkup: all is well, and I was amused by the doctor's attempt to persuade me of the merits of an exercise program less vigorous than I already follow).

After the exam, I went down to Chinatown, where I got lunch (the usual sweet ginger duck at the usual place), then went to the post office, where I bought a money order and sent it off, with a variety of forms that constitute a city "education and experience" "exam". In theory, if they agree that I have the necessary background, I will at some future point be offered a job doing computer tech support. The money order was for the filing fee; money orders are the only acceptable form of payment. Preparatory to this, I spent a chunk of yesterday trying to find numbers for things like my salary in 1992, and how much of my time at ACM was spent on what. Also how to translate Yale's slightly odd approach to course credit (with a very few exceptions, one course=one credit); I settled for giving the numbers straight and writing in an explanation.

Having been businesslike, I went up to midtown, and stopped in at Ben and Jerry's for a free ice cream cone. I took the opportunity to try their "giant chocolate chunk", which is dark chocolate chips in their vanilla. The flavor combination works, but the chips are large enough that pushing the ice cream down into the bottom of a sugar cone is awkward.

I finished my ice cream half a block from the gym, had a good workout, then went back and got another free cone, Cherry Garcia this time, which I finished on the A train.

The lilacs are starting to bloom on 207th Street.
