Marigolds

The marigolds I bought yesterday are now in the ground: one dozen dwarf red marigolds, pleasantly scented, around the base of a gingko tree on Indian Road. The soil is a lot better than when I planted the snapdragons a couple of years ago, and we saw two worms (one of which I dug up and had to move to where I'd already done some planting) while I dug.

I had to clean out some broken glass (some looked like bottle, some like shattered windshield), but less than I'd feared. Also the dried-out remnants of last year's plants. [livejournal.com profile] cattitude cheerfully carried water, and discarded the plastic the flowers had come in so it wouldn't blow away.

Two neighbors came along when I had just gotten the first plant into the ground, and commented that it was "looking great". It's amazing how much pleasure I can give myself and a lot of other people for $5 and a half hours' work.
