Hi Redbird, apropos not so much of Farthing Party, but of one of the things we were talking about in the park, I accidentally discovered that the "300" club really was 300 (one finds interesting bits of history while straggling through one's mailing list archives looking for birth announcements):

Yup!
Basically, as soon as the temp. dips below -100F, we all (17 out of 50 station members participated) go in the sauna, butt naked, which is set to 200F, for 15 minutes, and then run outside. I was one of four people who made it to the actual South Pole. That's right I've run around the South Pole naked! :)
300 Club, comes from the fact that the temperature difference is 300F. If I include the actual sauna temperature and the windchill factor, the difference that day was 346F.
Cool eh!? :)
What I mostly find freaky is the part where they went outside voluntarily in -100F degree whether
